Mr. Cornish brings over 20 years of governmental and business experience to this project. Don holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and minor in Philosophy from Florida International University. He has worked throughout the public service in the Bahamas in a senior capacity. His organizational skills and leadership resulted in major responsibilities such as the senior officer in the Office of the Prime Minister, Freeport, Grand Bahama, with responsibility for the civil service and all government revenue (over $200 million annually). He has also served as a Family Island Administrator in several major islands and held senior posts in Ministry of Finance and Tourism, coordinating key governmental initiatives, such as the implementation of the Business License Act 2010 throughout the family islands. He has significant experience in tourism, serving as head of the department in a family island office, before being posted overseas in the United States for several years to cross train in the Ministry of Tourism’s departments and units and International Marketing and PR agencies contracted with the Ministry of Tourism. He gained strong insight into the tourism business and coordinated several new initiatives, including vertical markets projects in fishing, diving, and boating as well as structuring major sporting relationships with the Miami Heat, Miami Dolphins Florida Marlins and Orlando Magic. He was also tasked with directing the Product Development Department in the Ministry of Tourism and most recently appointed Director of Tourism for the Asian Market (2014-2017) to coordinate the Bahamas’ efforts to attract business from Asia, with special emphasis on China. Don has also spent a considerable amount of time in the community, leading several sports and community organizations as President; including the Bahamas Volleyball Federation and serving as Vice President of The Bahamas Olympic Committee. The Cabinet of the Bahamas also appointed him as a member and eventual Co-Chairman of the National Sports Advisory Council for Family Islands. In his private life, Don also operated his own Real Estate Appraisal Business for more than two decades, which allowed him to work with several key national projects and major international clients and developers, as well as key government ministries and agencies. He is also a Rotarian and involved in several other civic organizations.
